Training and Life

Since Never Summer getting back into the groove of running has not been easy. I've been busy moving out of one apartment right after the race, splitting time the first 3 weeks of August between Colorado and Minnesota before spending 6 weeks out in California completing a  clinical rotation for grad school. Although I have felt like I could not get in a routine with running, I have had some amazing experiences. I spent a long weekend with my family on vacation,I was able to stop in Salt Lake City for a night to run with friends on my way to California. I spent a full weekend running in Auburn, California and spent 2 weekends with my girlfriend. One being tourists in San Francisco and the other exploring Mammoth Lakes, watching the Golden Trail Series.

Back at the end of August I decided to pull out of Javelina Jundred, the miles were not coming easy and I felt overwhelmed with the idea of putting in another training block that I would be proud of and have a chance to compete with at a golden ticket race.  Since then, I have been working on shifting my mind and body to be okay and working on balancing life.

Being an endurance athlete I have struggled with the idea that more isn't always better. You don't need to be in peak shape year round. I have been slowly realizing that letting your body and mind recover is necessary. These recovery periods are what your body needs so you can push your body to the limit.

Now back in Colorado after a few months of being here and there, I have a few more weeks of recovery and settling into our new apartment before I get back on the horse, figuratively speaking. Then, I will be starting my new training block coming back for more at Black Canyon 100k. Hopefully more balanced training to start then picking it up and dialing it in late december and early January. The winter months can be a slogg so if you want to share some miles don't be afraid to reach out on strava, instagram, or through the website.
